Từ lâu, tôi đã ấp ủ giấc mơ thực hiện một quyển sách Toán học phổ thông mà người học có thể tương tác với đường cong, đồ thị. Toán là môn học cung cấp lời giải cho những vấn đề trong cuộc sống từ những việc mua bán ngoài chợ cho đến đường bay phức tạp của phi thuyền đến những tinh cầu xa xôi trong vũ trụ, từ những tính toán nồng độ dung dịch trong phòng thí nghiệm đến việc tính toán tiền lời kép tại những cơ quan tài chánh.
Lý thuyết toán học thường khó hiểu, nếu ta không hình dung được nó trông ra sao, cảm giác thế nào. Những mô hình và đồ thị giúp chúng ta hiểu. Và những mô hình và đồ thị mà chúng ta có thể thay đổi, đụng chạm, xê dịch, phóng lớn hay thu nhỏ, ngay trước mắt chắc chắn sẽ mang sự thích thú đến cho người học, người dùng.
Với sự tiến bộ không ngừng của kỹ thuật điện toán di động, một quyển sách toán phổ thông với chức năng tương tác đã có thể thực hiện và đến được tay của hằng trăm triệu người trên thế giới, bất cứ nơi đâu và bất cứ lúc nào. Giấc mơ ngày nào của tôi đã thành sự thật với phiên bản iPhone app đầu tiên – “My Quadratic”, tạm dịch “Đường cong Parabola của tôi”, đã ra đời, cùng nhiều app giáo dục và khoa học khác cũng sẽ ra đời trong tương lai. - Version 1.0: This app is an interactive graphing math book in which high school, college students and science lovers can observe and try out various ways of analyzing a quadratic function with graphing features. Students are gradually introduced the theory behind a quadratic function with various parameters. Mathematically, there are three forms in a quadratic function – a polynomial of order 2: the vertex form, the general form, and the factored form. This app shows techniques to find the zeros, the coordinates of the vertex, the y-intercept; to draw the corresponding parabola and its axis of symmetry; as well as to algebraically convert from one form to another. There are formula-specific calculators (CalPad) and parabola plotter (PlotPad) that help students characterize a quadratic function with domain, range, and variations; and visualizing the relative size and shape of the transformed parabola compared to the basic one.
- The vertex form: f(x) = a(x – h)² + k

- The factored form: f(x) = a(x – x₁)(x – x₂).
